It has been an amazing Autumn in Year 5. At the start of the term, the children took part in a Zones of Regulation Discovery Day and it was fantastic to see how the children were able to discuss the range of emotions and techniques to self-regulate themselves. In Science, the children explored the range of life cycles for various mammals and plants as well as looking at forces like gravity, air resistance and water resistance. In Geography, the children explored the rainforest, weather and climate and field work. The children used their devices to investigate weather around the world and how landscapes within Langley over time. In RE, it has been great to see the children display their British values when discussing what it means to be Muslim and their curiosity when learning all about the Key Principles of Islam. In Talk 4 Writing the children learnt how emotive language can captivate the reader and convey emotions within their poetry and story writing. Jemison class had a fantastic birthday celebrating their name’s sake. The children were amazed to find out all about Mae Jemison’s accomplishments and how she overcame obstacles. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity during a visit from Mrs Malama-Smith from TLA and were left feeling inspired. The children had a fantastic time when observing a science experiment, whereby a mini rocket was made and launched trough mixing vinegar and bicarbonate soda. To end the day, the children learnt about what astronauts eat in space and tried some freeze-dried ice-cream. Lovelace also had a fantastic class birthing celebrating their name’s sake. The children were amazed to learn about how different education for women, especially science and maths, was back in the Victorian era. The children made their own binary coded bracelets, key chains, and rings as that is the language that computers speak. In Maths, we covered a range of topics such as place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division as well as fractions. We look forward for the children to apply their knowledge in Spring. Some of our children who were apart of the wider community group for Freeflow visited a Care Home. They learnt how beneficial it is to give to others and how they can embrace our key values as a school. Finally, we would like to say a massive thank you to Miss Kingma for all her hard work within the year group and she will be missed hugely. We wish her all the luck with her next steps and her relocation.

Year 6 have had an incredibly busy term. The children have worked extremely hard across their core subjects and produced work they can be very proud of. As we wind down for the holidays, we hope the students can reflect on all the have achieved and set themselves realistic goals for next term. As a part of the Christmas cheer, we even had a go at making the longest paper chain! It’s safe to say, Bowie won!
