Year 1 & 2: Explorers, Princesses & Pirates

This week the children in Year 1 have been busy exploring lots of new learning across the curriculum. In Science, they discovered the different organs in the body and learned about their functions. In Maths, they practised finding "one more" than a given number. During Talk 4 Writing, they continued their work on The Paper Bag Princess, adding more actions to their text map and learning how to use different prepositions to describe Elizabeth’s journey.

We have had a fantastic first week in Year 2! In Maths, we explored tens and ones, using manipulatives such as cubes and base-ten blocks to help us understand place value. In English, we continued to draw our story maps based on the exciting book, The Pirates Next Door. The children loved using pictures to retell the story. During free-flow time, we played a lively game of bingo, which helped us practise our number skills, and we also designed and created our very own bookmarks to keep in our favourite books.
