This week in Year 5, the children completed their PiXL reading and maths assessments, including arithmetic and reasoning papers. In writing, children explored different genres by composing an ‘I am…’ poem and writing in role as Magnus, building on their text analysis skills. Reading lessons focused on developing vocabulary understanding and retrieving information from texts. In Maths, the children have worked on comparing and ordering numbers to 1,000,000, as well as rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000. During science lessons, the children investigated friction, exploring how it can be reduced and how different materials affect it. Geography lessons involved using maps to identify key features, helping children develop their spatial awareness.

Year 6 have had a week full of creativity, exploration, and learning! In Science, they participated in a fascinating heart workshop where they dissected a real heart to learn about its structure and function. In Maths, children delved into factors, multiples, and prime numbers. In Art, they practiced drawing facial features, focusing on proportions and details to improve their artistic techniques. Finally, in Computing, Year 6 got hands-on with technology by creating their own interactive games using Micro bit, exploring coding and design.
