This week in English, the children in Year 5 retold our focus story and used a range of writing skills, including parenthesis, fronted adverbials and colourful semantics to improve their sentences. In Reading, the children developed their comprehension skills by making inferences, retrieving key information and making predictions based on the text. In Maths, the children explored cube numbers and worked on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000, as well as completing cold and hot tasks to show their understanding of multiplication, division and fractions. In Science, Year 5 investigated gravity and took part in practical activities to deepen their understanding of forces. It was a busy and exciting week, especially with special events such as the reindeer visit and workshops that enhanced learning across the curriculum.

This week, the children tackled adding and subtracting mixed fractions in Maths, while in English they continued developing their recount writing skills. Reading sessions were full of excitement as they explored Chapter 5 of ‘The Hobbit’ and even created their own imaginative riddles inspired by the story. To round off the week, the class enjoyed a fascinating historical trip to Hampton Court Palace, where they immersed themselves in Tudor history and imagined what life might have been like for King Henry VIII and his court.
