The children in Year 5 explored characters’ thoughts and feelings in their reading lessons and used evidence from the text to support their ideas. In Maths, they calculated fractions of quantities, multiplied mixed numbers and practised multiplying two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. In English, they investigated new vocabulary, used fronted adverbials and improved their writing by adding comparisons to make information more vivid. In Science, they learned about reversible and irreversible changes and explained the difference between melting and dissolving.

Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful week of learning, made even brighter by the sunshine that appeared just in time for World Book Day. The children showed fantastic creativity as they wrote their own “Flip the Script” versions of the Grimm fairy tale Rapunzel, reimagining the story with imaginative twists. In Science, children enthusiastically carried out an investigation to explore how changing the voltage affected the brightness of a light bulb, demonstrating great curiosity and teamwork. In History, the children took part in a thoughtful and lively debate, considering whether Victorian reforms helped to improve life for children and women. It has been a fantastic week of discussion, creativity and discovery for Year 6.
